Daily Prayers From 'Meditations'
SUNDAY
Morning
Thank you, dear Father, for making me into a living stone and a part of your temple, the church. Because of your love, I am not cold and dead in sin but alive and free in Christ. What joy there is in belonging to the army of believers. I am privileged to come before your throne of grace. May my feelings toward you in worship always be joyful. Keep me from being complacent. Remind me today of the joy of belonging to you. Amen.
EveningEternal God and Father, give me your Holy Spirit and write the spoken Word I heard today in my heart. May I receive and believe it. May I be cheered and comforted by it into eternity. Strengthen your Word in my heart. May it give me peace. May I find pleasure in it. Help me, through your Holy Spirit, to think what is right. By your power, fulfill your promises to me for the sake of Jesus Christ, your Son, My Lord. Amen.
MONDAY
Morning
Lord God, we thank and praise you for your great goodness. We especially thank you for leading us to the knowledge of your Son, the Savior of all, Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit has enabled us to believe your plan of salvation with our hearts and to confess it with our mouths. Grant that each of us brings forth the fruits of faith and continues steadfast in your Word. Amen.
Evening
Merciful Jesus, when you come again, let me receive the reward of the faithful: eternal life. What a glorious day it will be when you come with all your angels! Help me to fight the good fight of faith and to receive the crown of righteousness. With your guidance and power, I can overcome the assaults of all my enemies. Keep my gaze heavenward. Amen.
TUESDAY
Morning
Dear Creator, let my first thoughts of the day be of you. I know I will need your guiding hand throughout this day. When I arrive at work or school or start my duties, help me to see those I meet as people whom you love and for whom you have died. Let my labors be guided by the thought that all I do is a service to your glory. Give me patience and understanding to guide my work and play. Amen.
Evening
Dear God, I am so thankful that I can come to you in prayer at any time. Prayer is a significant part of my Christian life. Jesus himself taught us to pray when he prayed to you in the Garden of Gethsemane and when he gave us the Lord's Prayer. I know I can pour out my heart to you at any time. Whether my prayer is written by someone else or comes from my heart, hear me, O God, for the sake of your Son. Wash away my sins, and keep me close to you. Amen.
WEDNESDAY
Morning
I am sometimes afraid, Lord, to ask you for help. I think that you are too busy to be concerned with my small needs and problems. Hear me, Father. I come to you in obedience, for you have told me to ask and have promised that I will receive. I ask you, Lord, for your blessing. I ask you for your help in difficult times and in happy times. Provide for my welfare and for the welfare of all people. Amen.
Evening
We rely on you, God, our Savior. You make us secure. Your work is the foundation of every thing we do Like Martin Luther, we endure all things, since you are our guardian and guide. May we be as faithful to you as you have been to us. You have promised to be with your chosen people; that thought comforts me. Praise be to the Lord! Amen.
THURSDAY
Morning
Dear God, as I begin this day, I realize that I have many needs. I need to eat a healthy breakfast. I need to pack the kids' lunches and get them off to school. I need to prepare my presentation for work. I need to get ready for Bible class. But most of all, I need to prepare myself for a day with you. Don't let the distractions of my busy life make you secondary. You are my life and my salvation. You saw my greatest need--redemption--and you gave it to me. Help me to keep my busy life in perspective Amen.
Evening
Dear Lord, thank you for the memories of my childhood. I can see the may times you aided and guided me in spite of my foolishness and carelessness. Thank you for giving me a childlike faith. Even if some periods of my life were not happy when things did not go the way I wanted then to, you were always there to see me through my difficulties. How good it is to know that when I knock, you will open a door for me. Thank you for giving me the life I have. Amen.
FRIDAY
Morning
O Lord, help me listen to you with an open mind. Correct my will so that I say at all times what Jesus said in Gethsemane, "Not my will but yours be done." Let my faith never be shaken but, according to your will, let me see the plan you have laid out for me. Be with me this last day of the workweek, and renew my strength during the weekend to come. Amen.
Evening
Dear Jesus, in the famous hymn "Rock of Ages," the writer asks you, "Let me hide myself in thee" (CW 389:1). I ask the same thing, my Redeemer. So many temptations come into my life, especially on the weekend. Shield me by your wisdom. Help me not only know the words of the Bible, but also live them. May my soul find refuge in you, so that the storms of sin may pass over without harming me. Let me hide myself in you! Amen.
SATURDAY
Morning
"Amazing Grace" is more than a famous hymn. It is the way to eternal life for us sinners. Lord, your grace extends beyond all human boundaries and limits. You saved all of us, undeserving though we are. You died for us on the cross. You rose again and guaranteed that we would live forever with you. The Promise you made to prepare mansions for us spurs us to love you and our fellow people. Be with us all our lives, Lord Jesus. Amen.
Evening
Lord Jesus, your plan of salvation has been compared to a doctor who is treating a terminally ill patient. Faith is the syringe that holds the serum of Jesus' blood and righteousness. Faith gives the miracle cure. There is only one antidote for sin--your sacrifice for us. We can never praise you enough for all you've done for us and for all you continue to do for us. Thank you, Redeemer! Amen.
